Classwork #2: Block Drawings



Mr. La Londe's drawing in progress Mr.English's final drawingTo begin the year, we will learn how to set up a simple block still-life, use a viewfinder and our sketchbooks to create small "thumbnail" compositions, and then choose a final composition to complete our charcoal drawings.Below is the grading rubric for our block drawing assignment in class. Today, will be the last full period to work on these drawings, and next class (Monday, Sept. 15th) we will have our class critique. The drawings will be due at the beginning of class on Wednesday, Sept.17th.

TASK CHECK LIST

Block Drawing

1. Practice drawings of blocks
2. Make 4 different compositions (RULES: Edges: Must touch at least 2 sides of the paper. Space: Must use at least 50% of the space of the paper.)
a. Mystery View
b. Zoom – In
c. Near and Far
d. Shadowy Shapes

3. Make a Value Scale.
4. Make a sketch of a block with different values on 4x6 size paper.
5. Final drawing on 11x16 charcoal paper. (Grading Criteria: Touch at least 2 sides of the paper touch, Use at least 50% of the space of the paper, draw the blocks accurately, & show 5 different values.)
